Danino contains 40 mg of DHA per 100 g serving (24 mg per 60 g serving) and is the yogurt for children with the highest level of DHA available in Canada. One 93 ml serving of Danino Go drinkable yogurt contains 20 mg of DHA. These are several easy and delicious ways to boost your child’s DHA intake as part of a healthy diet and well-balanced lifestyle.
DHA and health
DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is an omega-3 fatty acid that contributes to the normal development of the brain, eyes and nerves. Research suggests that it helps improve learning, memory and concentration abilities.
Is DHA a part of your child’s diet?
The main sources of DHA are fatty fish and seafood, little of which is found in the typical Canadian diet. As a result, DHA consumption is believed to be lacking among Canadian children.
While no recommended daily intake (RDI) has been established, scientific studies carried out to date suggest that the daily intake of DHA and EPA (another omega-3 fatty acid) should correspond to the following:
- 70 mg for children 1 to 3 years old
- 90 mg for children 4 to 8 years old
In total, each 100 g serving of Danino yogurt contains 50 mg of DHA and EPA, thereby providing over 50% of daily requirements of DHA and EPA for children age 4 to 8. Petit Danino contains 29 mg of DHA and EPA per 60 g serving. Lastly, Danino Go drinkable yogurt has 24 mg of DHA and EPA per 93 ml serving.
